PHILADELPHIA, PA and BOSTON, MA – Two rising musical acts from the East Coast have come together to create one of hip-hop’s hottest new singles.
The Philadelphia-based group known as Urbano and Greg Gatsby – a DJ, producer and songwriter from Boston, Massachusetts – have collaborated on the new single “So Easy.” It’s a song that Gatsby describes as a hybrid of EDM and hip-hop, with a mixture of “really cool sound design and vocals that bring a fun, energetic new sound to the table.”
Gatsby’s label Rorschach Music Group signed and distributed the single. This relatively new independent label is one that Gatsby said exists to help new artists find a way into the industry without having to sign away their rights to reach success. Rorschach lets their artists keep the copyright – they own 100 percent of the rights and the publishing of their music.
Gatsby and Urbano came into contact with one another on the heels of mutually successful singles earlier this year. Urbano had a pop song that they released with 418 Music, which charted on Billboard. Gatsby’s last two singles also charted on Billboard. Through mutual circles of influence and recognition of each individual success, the two began to grow a mutual respect for one another.
“Urbano approached me to make a beat, and during that process we decided we wanted to co-create a record together,” Gatsby said. “They sent me a reference track and I made some music around that. As we collaborated we decided we wanted more energy and sound design, which I tried to bring to the table. However, I honestly think Marisa wrote and sang an incredible hook and John killed his verses. That’s what really carries this song and gives it the fun, confident vibe it has.”
Urbano consists of a brother and sister duo made up of John and Ris. They grew up loving music and began recording music and writing songs at a young age. After releasing their first studio album, “Royal Family,” they put out a single called “Are You?” in April of this year. That’s the single that climbed the charts and has seen more than 245,000 views on YouTube to date.
Gatsby is a touring DJ and producer who got his start in the music industry by performing all throughout Boston and the East Coast. After several tours at major venues in the U.S. and Canada – and having shared the stage with artists such as GTA, Waka Flocka, Big Sean, Sander Van Doorn, Bass Jackers, Travis Scott, Warren G and more – he started released more of his own music. His single “Mayday” was released in 2016 and reached No. 16 on the Billboard Club Dance Charts.
